What separates the best VoIP for small business picks?
Call quality and reliability carry the most weight in our scoring, at 30 points, and that is where the top of this list splits. RingCentral scored 8.6 and Nextiva 8.4, with Nextiva's call quality landing within a tenth of RingCentral's. Zoom Phone sits at 8.5 and costs $15, with $75 a month for five unlimited seats. Dialpad also costs $15 and scored 8.3, though its call quality was a step behind RingCentral and Nextiva on our loaded-network calls.
Price is not the same as value. 8x8 Work costs $24 and scored 7.8, the most expensive entry plan here at $120 for five seats, but unlimited calling to 14 countries at the entry tier is something nothing else on this page matches. Google Voice for Business is the cheapest at $10, or $50 a month for five seats, and scored 7.7. Grasshopper costs $18 and scored 7.2, priced per account so five people share the $80 Small Business plan.
What should I check before buying?
Features count for 25 points, and the entry plans differ more than the headline prices suggest. Call recording is not on Nextiva's entry plan, and RingCentral puts recording and CRM integration on the $25 Advanced plan. Ooma Office keeps desktop app, recording and video for the $24.95 Pro plan. Dialpad includes sentiment analysis and automatic call summaries on Standard, but its uptime SLA only applies to Pro and above.
Setup and admin is 15 points. RingCentral's auto-attendant and ring groups configured in under twenty minutes; Ooma's base station and phones arrived pre-configured and worked in ten minutes. Zoom Phone's auto-attendant is basic next to RingCentral or Nextiva, and 8x8's admin console is built for larger deployments.
Integrations are 10 points. RingCentral connects to Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft 365, Google and Slack. Google Voice rings your Gmail, calendar and Meet setup natively but needs a paid Google Workspace subscription on top. Grasshopper routes calls over the mobile network, so quality is your carrier's.
Value is 20 points, and the quote matters. Taxes and fees added about 18% to our RingCentral quote. Ooma Office runs month-to-month with no contract and no early termination fee.
Which one for whom?

RingCentral suits a team that wants the highest call-quality score and the deepest integration list, while Zoom Phone suits anyone already living in Zoom.
