What separates the cheapest SEO tools on this page?

Price is the first split. Google Search Console is Free. Ubersuggest is $29. Moz Pro is $49. Screaming Frog SEO Spider is $20. Scores run 8.2, 8, 7.9 and 7.5, so the free tool sits at the top and the cheapest paid tool sits at the bottom.

The second split is what each one actually does. Search Console gives you impressions, clicks and average position from Google, plus indexing reports and Core Web Vitals from real user data. It only covers your own verified sites, and its backlink report is a sample, not an index.

Screaming Frog is a desktop crawler. On our test site it found 43 issues the cloud audits missed, including three redirect chains. It connects to Search Console, Analytics and PageSpeed. It has no keyword data, no rank tracking and no backlinks, and a big crawl needs memory on your machine.

Moz Pro is the learning tool. Explanations are written for people who are learning, and Moz Local manages listings across directories. The Starter plan tracks 50 keywords, and it found 148 of 200 links.

Ubersuggest is the only one here selling a lifetime licence. It found 89 of 200 backlinks and tracks 125 keywords on the entry plan.

What should I check before buying an SEO tool?

Our scoring puts index size and data accuracy at 30, feature coverage at 25, usability and reporting at 15, limits and fair use at 10, and value at 20. That order matters when you compare.

  • Accuracy first. Moz Pro found 148 of 200 links, Ubersuggest found 89 of 200. If backlink counts drive your decisions, that gap is the number to weigh.
  • Coverage second. Search Console has no competitor data. Screaming Frog has no keyword or rank data.
  • Limits third. Moz Pro Starter tracks 50 keywords, Ubersuggest tracks 125. Match that to how many terms you actually watch.
  • Value last. Ubersuggest's lifetime licence is a one-off. Moz Pro is $49, Screaming Frog is $20, Search Console is Free.

Google Search Console

Moz Pro

For people learning SEO who want Domain Authority, local listings and plain explanations.

Ubersuggest

Google Search Console suits anyone who wants Google's own query and indexing data for free. Screaming Frog SEO Spider suits technical crawls, Moz Pro suits people learning SEO with local listings to manage, and Ubersuggest suits a single small site that wants a one-off licence.

Questions about cheapest seo tools that still work

Do I need a paid SEO tool?
Not to start. Google Search Console shows the queries you already rank for, which is the single most useful data set, and it is free. A paid tool earns its keep when you need to see competitors' keywords and backlinks, track hundreds of positions, or audit a large site. Below about 50 pages, Search Console plus a free tier usually covers it.
Which tool finds the most backlinks?
Ahrefs found 186 of our 200 known links, Semrush 171 and Moz 148. Index size is the one area where the two market leaders are genuinely ahead, and it is why link-building teams pay their prices.
Are keyword volumes accurate?
They are estimates, and they differ between tools by a wide margin for the same term. Against Google Ads figures, Semrush and Ahrefs were closest on high-volume head terms; every tool struggled on long-tail queries under about 100 searches a month. Use them to compare terms with each other, not as a forecast of traffic.
How do you test SEO tools?
The same five sites are added to every tool, along with a list of 200 backlinks we already know exist. We record how many each finds, compare 50 keyword volumes with Google Ads Keyword Planner, run the site audit and check the issues it reports against a manual review, and price the plan needed to track 500 keywords across five projects.
