Klaviyo (Email) review 2027
The ecommerce platform: every Shopify order, browse and cart in every profile, predictive analytics and the flows that make store email pay
Is the Klaviyo Worth It?
Best email marketing for ecommerce. If you sell products online, Klaviyo's store data and flows will earn back its price many times, and no other platform here comes close on that. For anything that is not a store it is expensive and complicated.
Klaviyo Pros & Cons
- Abandoned-cart flow built from templates in minutes with product data already there
- Predicted next-order date and lifetime value on every profile
- 96% inbox placement
- SMS in the same flows
- $100 at 5,000 profiles — most expensive here
- Overkill for a newsletter or a service business
- Steeper learning curve
What problem does Klaviyo solve for online stores?
Klaviyo is built around one job: turning store activity into email that pays. Every Shopify order, browse and cart sits in every profile, so an abandoned-cart flow can be built from templates in minutes with the product data already there. That is the benefit our testers kept coming back to, and it is why the platform ranks second in this category with a score of 8.3.
The other measured strengths are predictive and practical. Every profile carries a predicted next-order date and lifetime value, inbox placement came in at 96% across our four campaigns and 40 seed addresses, and SMS runs inside the same flows rather than in a separate tool. The verdict is blunt about the trade-off: for a store, the data and flows earn back the price many times; for anything that is not a store, it is expensive and complicated.
How did Klaviyo score in our tests?
We scored five criteria, and the pattern is clear — Klaviyo is strong where store data matters and weak on price.
- Deliverability: 24 out of 25. Measured by inbox placement of our four campaigns across 40 seed addresses at Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and iCloud, plus authentication setup help. The 96% placement figure sits behind that near-perfect mark.
- Editor & automation: 24 out of 25. Judged on email editor quality, templates, and how far the automation builder went with our welcome, cart-abandon and re-engagement flows.
- Segmentation & data: 15 out of 15. A full score for segments, tags, custom fields, ecommerce data and reporting depth.
- Ease of use: 11 out of 15. Time to a first campaign, and how much the interface fought back. This is where the steeper learning curve shows up.
- Value: 9 out of 20. Monthly price at 5,000 contacts with automation, and the free tier. At $100/mo it is the most expensive platform here.
What does Klaviyo do better than most email platforms?
The standout is the combination of store data and predictive analytics. Because product data is already attached to each profile, our testers assembled an abandoned-cart flow from templates in minutes rather than wiring up custom fields first. Predicted next-order date and lifetime value appear on every profile, which gives segmentation something concrete to work with.
Deliverability backs that up: 96% inbox placement in our test, with authentication setup help included. And SMS lives in the same flows, so a cart reminder can go out by text without a second platform or a second contact list.
How does Klaviyo's technology work?
Klaviyo connects directly to a store platform and pulls order, browse and cart events into a single customer profile. Those events become the triggers for automations: a cart event starts a flow, a purchase event stops it. Predictive analytics read each profile's order history to estimate when that person will next buy and what they are likely to be worth, and those estimates can be used as segment conditions. SMS is handled by the same automation engine, so a flow can branch between email and text. Forms capture new profiles, though there is no page builder.
What do you get, and what does it cost?
The spec sheet is short and store-focused. Price at 5,000 contacts is $100/mo. The free plan covers 250 contacts. Automation is described as best-in-class flows. Ecommerce integrations are native for Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Magento. Forms are included but there is no page builder. SMS is supported. Inbox placement in our test was 96%. The stated best fit is online stores.
How does Klaviyo compare with the other platforms we tested?
Against MailerLite (score 9, $39/mo), Klaviyo is ahead on ecommerce depth — MailerLite covers Shopify and WooCommerce but has no SMS — and behind on price and on inbox placement, where MailerLite measured 97% to Klaviyo's 96%.
Against Brevo (score 8.3, $25/mo), Klaviyo is ahead on automation, which Brevo reserves for its Business plan, and on inbox placement, 96% against 94%. Brevo is ahead on price, on a free plan of 300 emails/day with unlimited contacts, and on messaging channels, since it includes SMS and WhatsApp.
Against ActiveCampaign (score 8.1, $79/mo), Klaviyo is ahead on inbox placement, 96% against 93%, and on having a free tier where ActiveCampaign offers only a 14-day trial. ActiveCampaign is ahead on price and on automation depth, which our testers called the most powerful here, and it adds BigCommerce alongside Shopify and WooCommerce.

Where does Klaviyo fall short?
Value is the weak point, and it is the reason the platform lost ground in our scoring. At $100/mo for 5,000 profiles it is the most expensive option in this comparison, and the value criterion returned 9 out of 20. The free tier stops at 250 contacts, well below the free allowances elsewhere.
The other two complaints are about fit rather than quality. It is overkill for a newsletter or a service business, where the store data that justifies the price does nothing. And the learning curve is steeper than the simpler platforms here, which showed up in an ease-of-use score of 11 out of 15.
Is Klaviyo worth the price?
At $100/mo for 5,000 contacts, Klaviyo is the priciest platform in this test, and the 9 out of 20 value score reflects that. The case for paying it rests entirely on the store data: native Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Magento integrations, predictive next-order date and lifetime value on every profile, and SMS inside the same flows. If those features are doing work in your business, the price is the cost of the tool that does the job. If they are not, you are paying for capability you will never open.
Who should buy Klaviyo?
Shopify and WooCommerce stores. That is the audience the platform is built for, and it is where the abandoned-cart flows, predictive profiles and 96% inbox placement translate into revenue. If you run a store on those platforms and email is a real sales channel, Klaviyo is the pick in this category. If you run a newsletter, a service business or a small list, the price and the learning curve make it the wrong tool.
