Khan Academy scores 8.8 and costs nothing. Teachers graded its calculus and chemistry explanations highest in our test, and Khanmigo walks you through the steps instead of handing over the answer. It has no textbook-specific solutions, and humanities help is thin.
Quizlet sits at 8.2 for $7.99. Learn mode schedules review and adapts, practice tests generate themselves, and Magic Notes turns uploaded notes into cards. User-made sets contain errors, and textbook solutions are thinner than Chegg's.
Wyzant scores 8.0 at from about $35/hr. It was the only service that gave useful, specific essay feedback, and tutors explained our calculus and chemistry mistakes better than any written answer. You pay per hour, and quality depends on the tutor you choose.
Chegg Study scores 7.9 for $15.95. It returned worked solutions for the exact problems in our textbooks and expert answers to our own questions within hours, mostly correct. It also has the lowest integrity score: answers first, explanation second.
Grammarly and Course Hero both score 7.1, at $12 and $9.95. Grammarly caught grammar, clarity and tone issues that teachers also flagged, but it is writing only. Course Hero has notes for many specific university courses and is cheap on the annual plan, though answer quality graded lower than Chegg.
