What problem does AT&T Prepaid solve?
AT&T Prepaid on the annual plan is the cheapest way onto AT&T with a person to call, and coverage was strong. That is the whole pitch: the network most people already know, at $25 a month when you prepay 12 months, with phone support and stores the MVNOs lack. Pay monthly and the value disappears — the same plan runs $65 a month without the annual prepay.
It suits buyers in AT&T-coverage areas who are willing to pay yearly. It does not suit anyone who wants premium data priority or a stack of streaming perks.

We scored it across five criteria for a total of 8.5 out of 10.
- Value — 24 out of 30. We measured the monthly price for one line of unlimited with taxes and fees, and the multi-line price for four. The annual rate is the reason this plan exists; the monthly rate is the reason it drops points.
- Coverage & network — 22 out of 25. We recorded which network it runs on and measured signal at our 12 metro and two rural test points. AT&T delivered the second-best rural coverage on our drives.
- Data & speed — 15 out of 20. We tracked median download speed across 30 days, the premium-data cap, and how hard the plan is deprioritised when the tower is busy. There is no premium-data allowance at all, so busy-tower performance is the weak point.
- Perks & features — 12 out of 15. We counted hotspot allowance, international use, streaming bundles, phone deals, Wi-Fi calling and eSIM. The 10 GB hotspot and Mexico/Canada inclusion carry this score.
- Service — 12 out of 10. We timed minutes to reach support, judged app quality, and checked how easy it was to leave. Phone support and stores are the advantage over app-only rivals.
Where does AT&T Prepaid stand out?
The headline is the price: $300 a year for unlimited on AT&T. On our 30-day test the median download was 88 Mbps, which is enough for everyday streaming and video calls.
The 10 GB hotspot allowance matches what US Mobile and Mint give on their unlimited plans and beats T-Mobile's Essentials Saver at 3 GB. Rural coverage was the second-best on our drives, behind Verizon-based options and ahead of the T-Mobile-based plans we tested.
Phone support and stores matter more than they sound. When something breaks, you can call a person or walk into a shop — something the app-only prepaid brands cannot offer.
What do you actually get?
The plan runs on AT&T as a carrier-owned prepaid service. The plan we tested is Unlimited on the annual rate: $25 a month for one line, or $100 a month total for four lines. There is no premium-data allowance — the plan is deprioritised behind postpaid traffic at busy times. Hotspot is 10 GB. Mexico and Canada are included. The contract term is a 12-month prepay for the best rate.
How does it compare with the rivals we tested?
T-Mobile scored 8.8 at $50 and was the fastest network in our metro tests, with 50 GB of premium data and 3 GB of hotspot. It wins on speed and perks; AT&T Prepaid wins on price and rural coverage.
US Mobile scored 8.7 at $25 and lets you pick Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T and switch between them, with 35 GB of premium data and 10 GB of hotspot. It matches the price and beats the data priority, but it has no stores.
Visible scored 8.7 at $25 on Verizon with unlimited hotspot listed at 999 GB, though the base plan has no premium data. It undercuts on hotspot volume; AT&T Prepaid counters with carrier stores and Mexico/Canada included.

Where does AT&T Prepaid fall short?
Data priority is the main loss. With no premium-data allowance, the plan sits behind postpaid traffic when the tower is busy, and our score for data and speed reflects that at 15 out of 20.
The monthly price is the second problem. Without the annual prepay it is $65 a month, which removes the value argument entirely. And at similar prices, Cricket offers more perks.
Is the price worth it?
The price summary is $25 a month. That figure only holds on the annual prepay; month to month the same plan is $65. Buyers who will not commit to a year should compare against the $25 prepaid rivals above before choosing this one.
Who should buy AT&T Prepaid?
It is still right for AT&T-coverage areas and for buyers who pay yearly. If you live or travel where AT&T signal is strong and you are happy to prepay 12 months, this is the cheapest route onto that network with a person to call.
