What separates the best streaming service for sports on this page?

Live sport is the reason most people land here, and the six services split into two groups. Peacock carries every Premier League match, Sunday Night Football, the Olympics and WWE, and it has the cheapest ad tier with live sport at $13.99. Paramount+ has live CBS including NFL games and the Champions League at $12.99, the lowest ad-free price with live sport. Prime Video adds NFL Thursday nights and NBA games at $8.99, though ads are on by default and cost $2.99 to remove. Hulu's live plan includes Disney+ and ESPN+, but the ad-free standalone tier is $18.99, the most expensive here.

Scores sit close together: Max 7.9, Prime Video 7.6, Apple TV+ 7.4, Hulu 7.2, Peacock 7.1, Paramount+ 7.0. Max leads on catalogue, with 17 of 40 checklist titles and the deepest film library in the test, but its app search and profiles are clumsy and playback stalled twice. Apple TV+ has no ad tier and six streams, with every title in 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos at the highest bitrates measured, yet only 5 of 40 checklist titles.

What should I check before buying?

The scoring criteria weight catalogue 30, value 25, video and audio quality 20, apps and experience 15, and flexibility 10. Match those to what you watch.

  • Which sport, which service: Premier League, Sunday Night Football, the Olympics and WWE on Peacock; NFL on CBS and the Champions League on Paramount+; NFL Thursday nights and NBA on Prime Video; MLS and MLB on Apple TV+.
  • Peacock's ad tier carries ads even on Premium Plus for some live content. Apple TV+ has no ad tier at all.
  • Picture quality: Apple TV+ delivers 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos across its slate. Hulu has very little 4K, and Peacock has little 4K with a dated app.
  • App experience: Max and Paramount+ both draw complaints about search and profiles, so try the interface before committing.

If live sport is the priority

Peacock for Premier League, Sunday Night Football, the Olympics and WWE. Paramount+ for live CBS, NFL games and the Champions League at the lowest ad-free price with live sport. Prime Video if you already have Prime, since it is effectively free for members with 4K included.

If you want films and series between matches

Max has 17 of 40 checklist titles and HBO originals. Hulu brings next-day episodes from ABC, NBC, Fox and FX, with 14 of 40 checklist titles. Apple TV+ suits anyone who wants a small, ad-free slate in the best picture and sound quality measured.

For live sport, Peacock covers the Premier League, Sunday Night Football, the Olympics and WWE, while Paramount+ handles live CBS, NFL games and the Champions League at $12.99. If you already pay for Prime, Prime Video adds NFL Thursday nights and NBA games at $8.99. Between matches, Max and Hulu carry the deeper catalogues, and Apple TV+ is the pick for an ad-free slate in 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos.

Questions about best streaming services for sports

Which streaming service has the most to watch?
Netflix and Prime Video have the largest libraries by count; Max has the deepest film catalogue (Warner, HBO, Studio Ghibli, TCM classics); Disney+ has the family franchises. On our 40-title checklist of well-known films and series, Netflix had 19, Max 17, Prime Video 15, Hulu 14, Disney+ 12, Peacock 11, Paramount+ 10, Apple TV+ 5.
Are the ad tiers worth it?
They halve the price for 3–5 minutes of ads an hour. Netflix and Disney+ ad tiers ran about 4 minutes an hour in our month; Peacock and Hulu closer to 6; Prime Video's ads are on by default unless you pay $2.99 more. For background viewing they are fine; for films, pay for ad-free.
Can I still share passwords?
Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and Max now charge for or block use outside the household. Prime Video allows a Household of two adults. If sharing was the point, factor in the extra-member fee ($8–$10 a month) or a family plan.
How do you test streaming services?
One month each, on the same LG OLED, iPhone and MacBook, with the same 300 Mbps connection. We search a 40-title checklist on one day, measure delivered bitrate on 4K titles, time ad breaks on ad tiers, test downloads and profiles, and price the plans on the day. Catalogues change monthly; we re-check quarterly.
