Is the Coop Home Goods Original Worth It?

Best pillow overall. The Coop Original fits more people than any fixed pillow because you set the height yourself, and it held that height all week. It sleeps warmer than the cooling designs, which is the only mark against it.

Coop Home Goods Original Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Adjust the fill: our side sleeper added the extra bag, the back sleeper removed a third
  • Held loft under load better than any shredded pillow here
  • Fully machine washable
  • 100-night trial and 5-year warranty
Cons
  • Runs warm; the Eden version adds gel
  • Shredded foam can feel lumpy until fluffed
  • Adjusting takes a few nights of trial

What problem does the Coop Home Goods Original pillow solve?

The Coop Original fits more people than any fixed pillow because you set the height yourself, and it held that height all week. That is the whole case for it: if you have never found a pillow that sits right under your neck, this one lets you take fill out or put fill in until it does. Our side sleeper added the extra bag that comes in the box; the back sleeper removed a third of the fill. Both kept using it after the test week ended.

It is a shredded memory foam pillow, so it moulds rather than pushes back like a solid block. It is fully machine washable, which most pillows in this category are not, and it comes with a 100-night trial and a 5-year warranty. It sleeps warmer than the cooling designs, and that is the only mark against it.

How did we score the Coop Home Goods Original?

We scored it across five criteria for a total of 8.9 out of 10.

  • Support & alignment: 27 out of 30. We measured compressed loft under a 10 lb weight against the ideal for side and back sleepers, and checked whether the neck stayed level on a laser line. Under load it held 4.8 in of loft.
  • Comfort: 19 out of 20. Tester ratings over seven nights covered pressure on the ear and cheek, adjustability, and how it feels to move on.
  • Cooling: 11 out of 15. We logged surface temperature after 20 minutes under a heated pad and checked the breathability of the cover. This is where it gave up points.
  • Materials & durability: 14 out of 15. Fill quality, certifications, washability and loft loss after the trial.
  • Value: 18 out of 20. Price for a standard/queen against the field, plus the trial and warranty.

What does the Coop Original do better than the rest?

Adjustability is the standout. Our side sleeper added the extra bag of fill, the back sleeper removed a third, and neither had to buy a second pillow to get there. It held loft under load better than any shredded pillow in this test, which is unusual for shredded fill — most of them flatten through the night.

It is also fully machine washable, not just the cover. Add the 100-night trial and the 5-year warranty and you have a pillow you can change your mind about twice: once by adding or removing fill, and once by sending it back.

What is the Coop Original made of?

The fill is shredded memory foam, and the pillow ships with an extra bag of it. Stated loft is 5 in, firmness is adjustable, and it is rated for side and back sleepers. The cover is machine washable and the pillow carries CertiPUR-US and GREENGUARD Gold certifications. It is not an organic product. Trial runs 100 nights; warranty runs 5 years.

How does it compare with other pillows we tested?

The Layla Kapok Pillow scored 8.2 at $109. It blends shredded memory foam with kapok fibre for a down-like feel, also adjustable, with a 5.5 in loft and a copper-infused cover. Its 120-night trial is longer than the Coop's, but only the cover is machine washable, and it carries CertiPUR-US alone.

The Purple Harmony scored 8.2 at $199. It pairs a Talalay latex core with the GelFlex Grid and was the coolest surface we measured — the direct answer to the Coop's weak point. It is not adjustable; you choose one of three lofts instead. Its warranty is 1 year against the Coop's 5.

The Casper Original Pillow scored 8.1 at $65. It is a two-layer down-alternative design with a 5 in loft, medium firmness, no adjustability, a 30-night trial and a 1-year warranty. It is machine washable and OEKO-TEX certified. It costs less, but you cannot change its height.

Where does the Coop Original fall short?

Cooling. It runs warm, and the Eden version of the same pillow adds gel for that reason. Our measured surface temperature rise was 7.1°F. If you sleep hot, the Purple Harmony's gel grid is the better answer.

Two smaller things. Shredded foam can feel lumpy until you fluff it, and adjusting takes a few nights of trial before you land on the right fill level. Neither is a defect, but both are part of owning this pillow.

Is the Coop Original good value?

At $72 for a standard/queen it sits below the Layla at $109, the Purple Harmony at $199 and the Saatva Latex at $165, and just above the Casper Original at $65. For that price you get adjustable fill with an extra bag included, full machine washability, a 100-night trial and a 5-year warranty — the longest warranty among the adjustable pillows here.

Who should buy the Coop Home Goods Original?

Anyone who has never found the right pillow height. Side and back sleepers get the most from it, and the two testers in this review both kept theirs. If you sleep hot, look at a cooling design instead; if you want a fixed shape and a lower price, the Casper Original is the cheaper route.
