What separates the cheapest personal trainer certifications on this page?
Price is the first split. ACSM Certified Personal Trainer costs $279, NFPT Certified Personal Trainer costs $399, and ACE Certified Personal Trainer costs $675. The scores run the other way: ACE 8.8, ACSM 8.3, NFPT 7.8.
What you get for the money differs more than the numbers suggest. ACSM is the clinical name: physicians, hospitals and researchers recognise it most, and it is the cheapest exam of the accredited bodies. NFPT is NCCA-accredited for $399 all in, half the price of NASM, with a plain study manual.
The trade-offs are real. ACE's programming is less prescriptive than NASM's OPT model, and a retake on the Basic package is $249. ACSM ships no packaged course — you buy the textbook and build your own plan, and it has the least support of the seven. NFPT barely appeared in the job postings sampled and its course is text-heavy with little video.
