What separates the top job sites for tech jobs?

Four sites made this page, and the scores track how each one handles the same three searches. LinkedIn Jobs leads at 8.6, with 89% of first-page listings verified real and current, and alerts that matched our searches best. Glassdoor sits at 8.1: reviews, salaries, benefits and interview questions sit on every listing, and it now shares Indeed's jobs. Wellfound scores 7.7 and puts a salary and equity range on every listing, with founders replying directly. We Work Remotely scores 7.2, remote-only by design, with 94% of listings verified real and current.

Price is not the divider here. LinkedIn Jobs is free, with Premium at $39.99/mo, and the other three are free. What changes is what you get for the time you spend.

What should you check before you pick one?

Listing quality carries the most weight in our scoring (30), then search and filters (20), seeker tools (20), coverage (15) and value (15). Read the trade-offs before you commit an evening to applications.

  • LinkedIn Jobs: Premium adds little for most seekers, and it is weak for hourly and trade jobs.
  • Glassdoor: listing quality inherits Indeed's problems, and you need an account and a contribution to see everything.
  • Wellfound: startups only, and listing volume swings with the funding market.
  • We Work Remotely: small, with 60 relevant results across our three searches, and almost no healthcare or hourly work.

Check the listing volume against your own search terms before you build a routine around any one board.

We Work Remotely

LinkedIn Jobs suits professional roles where the recruiter is already on the platform, and Glassdoor suits anyone researching a company before applying. Wellfound fits startup searches where salary and equity are shown on every listing, while We Work Remotely is the pick for remote-only work with no account needed.

Questions about best job sites for tech and startup jobs

Why would anyone pay for a job board?
Because the free ones are full of stale, duplicate and fake remote listings. FlexJobs charges because every listing is checked by a person before it appears; in our four weeks 98% of its first-page results were real and current against 71% on the biggest free site. Whether that is worth $25 a month depends on how many hours you spend filtering.
Which site has the most jobs?
Indeed, by a wide margin, followed by LinkedIn. Volume is not the same as relevance: Indeed returned the most results for all three searches and the most duplicates and expired postings.
How do I spot a fake job listing?
No company name or a generic one, a salary far above market, an interview by chat only, a request for personal data or payment, and an email domain that is not the employer's. Cross-check every listing on the employer's careers page — that is what we did for this ranking.
How do you test job sites?
Three searches, weekly for four weeks, on every site. For each first page we check whether the job exists on the employer's site, whether it is still open, and whether it duplicates another listing. We also set alerts, build a profile, apply to a test posting and use the salary and company tools.
