Where the 4Ever DLX falls short
The rear-facing limit is the clearest loss. At 40 lb it stops short of the Extend2Fit's 50 lb, and that is the single spec where the seat gives ground to cheaper and similarly priced rivals.
Size and weight are the second issue. At 23 lb it is big and heavy, and it is not a seat for three-across installations. If you need to fit three seats on one bench, this is not the one.
The backless booster stage is basic. It works, but it is not the part of the seat that impressed us.
Is the price worth it?
The 4Ever DLX lists at $349.99. The value criterion scored 17 of 20, measured as price divided by usable years against the field. Ten years of use is what makes that number work: the seat is not cheap up front, but it is the last car seat most families will buy for that child.
Compare that with the path of an infant seat plus a convertible plus a booster, and the buy-once case is the reason this seat sits third of eight in our testing despite costing more than the Extend2Fit.
Who should buy the Graco 4Ever DLX 4-in-1?
This seat is right for buy-once families with a larger car. If you have the room, want one install that lasts ten years, and value a cover you can pull off and wash plus a harness you never have to rethread, this is the seat to get.
If you drive a smaller car, need three across, or want the longest possible rear-facing window, look at the Extend2Fit or the Radian instead. And if you want the carry-in convenience of an infant seat for the first months, start there — we would too — then move to the 4Ever DLX for the long stretch.
