BeenVerified (Monthly) review 2027
The most accurate people search in our test — current address and phone for nine of ten — with reverse phone, email, vehicle and username lookups
Is the BeenVerified Worth It?
Best people search site. BeenVerified found the most and invented the least, which is the whole job of a people search. It is for finding a lost contact or checking a date, and its terms say so.
BeenVerified Pros & Cons
- Current address correct for 9 of 10; working phone for 8
- Fewest false records of the people-search sites — 2 across ten people
- Reverse phone, email, username and licence-plate lookups
- Reports refresh with alerts
- Not FCRA — personal use only
- Reports load in stages with upsell interstitials
- Court records patchy in some states
What problem does BeenVerified solve?
BeenVerified is a people search site for personal lookups. Its own terms state the permitted use plainly: personal use only — not employment, tenant, credit or insurance. That single line defines both what it is good at and where it stops. If you are trying to find a lost contact or check a date, that is the job it was built for, and it is the job it does better than the other consumer sites we tested.
The benefit is accuracy in the two fields that matter most in a people search: where someone lives now and how to reach them. In our test of ten people, the current address was correct for 9 of 10, and a working phone number turned up for 8. Just as important, it invented the least: 2 false records across ten people, the fewest of the people-search sites in this category. A people search that returns nothing is annoying; one that returns a confident wrong address is worse. BeenVerified sits at the useful end of that trade-off.
It also covers more lookup types than a plain name search. Reverse phone, email, username and licence-plate lookups are all included, and reports refresh with alerts on saved reports, so a lookup you ran once can tell you when something changes.
How did BeenVerified score 8 out of 10?
We scored it across five criteria, and the weighting reflects what actually matters when you are searching for a person.
- Accuracy — 31 out of 35. This measures the share of current address, phone, relatives and known records found correctly for our ten test people, and how many false records appeared. This is where BeenVerified earns its place: 86% measured accuracy and only 2 false records across ten people.
- Coverage — 17 out of 20. Criminal, court, property, social, email and phone data sources, plus monitoring and alerts. The data covered list runs to addresses, phones, emails, relatives, property, court records, social and vehicles, with monitoring on saved reports.
- Compliance & transparency — 10 out of 15. FCRA status, how clearly permitted uses are stated, cancellation ease, and opt-out for the person being searched. BeenVerified is not FCRA-compliant and says so; permitted use is personal only. It loses points here, and the opt-out route for the searched is published at beenverified.com/app/optout.
- Usability — 8 out of 10. Report clarity, search speed, app quality and upsell friction. The iOS and Android apps are solid; the friction is real, because reports load in stages with upsell interstitials.
- Value — 14 out of 20. Monthly price for unlimited reports, or per-report price, at renewal.
Where does BeenVerified stand out?
The standout is the combination of hit rate and restraint. Current address correct for 9 of 10 and a working phone for 8 would be a good result on its own. Pairing that with the fewest false records of the people-search sites — 2 across ten people — is what separates it from rivals that pad thin results with guesses.
The second strength is breadth of lookup type. Reverse phone, email, username and licence-plate lookups mean you do not need a name to start. A number on your phone, an email address or a plate is enough to open a search.
The third is that reports refresh with alerts. A saved report is not a dead document; it can tell you when the underlying data changes.
What do you actually get, and how is it built?
The product is a subscription to a database search, so the "parts" are the data sources, the access terms and the delivery channels.
- Price: $26.89/mo; $17.48/mo on 3 months; unlimited reports.
- FCRA-compliant: No.
- Permitted use: Personal use only — not employment, tenant, credit or insurance.
- Unlimited reports: Yes.
- Data covered: Addresses, phones, emails, relatives, property, court records, social, vehicles.
- Monitoring: Yes, on saved reports.
- App: iOS, Android.
- Opt-out for the searched: beenverified.com/app/optout.
Those eight rows are the whole product. There is no hardware, no installation and no contract beyond the billing term you choose. The material point is the permitted-use line: this is a consumer tool, and the terms say so in plain language.
How does it compare with other background check sites?
BeenVerified scored 8, third in a category of seven tested sites. The two above it are employment screening platforms, not consumer people searches, and the distinction matters more than the ranking.
Checkr (8.8, from $29.99 per report) is FCRA-compliant and permitted for employment, gig, volunteer and tenant screening with consent. It covers SSN trace, county and federal criminal, sex offender, watchlists, MVR, and employment and education verification, with continuous criminal monitoring available. It has no unlimited reports and no consumer opt-out — it runs a candidate dispute process instead. If you are screening an applicant, Checkr is the correct tool and BeenVerified is not permitted for that use at all.
GoodHire (8.6, from $29.99 per report) is the same FCRA-compliant model with a simpler dashboard and no minimum. It covers SSN trace, national and county criminal, sex offender, watchlists, employment and education verification and drug screening, with no monitoring. Again, employment and tenant screening with consent only.
TruthFinder (7.7, $28.05/mo) is the closest consumer rival and the deepest on court and criminal records, with dark-web and social sections. It is not FCRA-compliant, is personal use only, offers unlimited person reports, monitoring, iOS and Android apps, and an opt-out at truthfinder.com/opt-out. It scores below BeenVerified on our accuracy-weighted total.
Spokeo (7.5, $19.95/mo; $14.95/mo on 3 months) is the cheapest unlimited people search and the strongest on social profiles and email lookups, but weaker on records — court records are an extra add-on. Personal use only, no monitoring, iOS and Android apps, opt-out at spokeo.com/optout.
Intelius (7.4, $24.86/mo) is a long-established search with clean reports and good address history, owned by the same group as Instant Checkmate. Personal use only, unlimited reports, no monitoring, iOS and Android apps, opt-out via suppression.peopleconnect.us.

Where does BeenVerified fall short?
Three concrete limitations, all of which showed up in testing.
- Not FCRA — personal use only. You cannot use it for employment, tenant, credit or insurance decisions. That is not a small print technicality; it is the boundary of the product.
- Reports load in stages with upsell interstitials. You get the result, then you get offered something else, repeatedly. It slows the experience and it is the main reason usability scored 8 rather than higher.
- Court records patchy in some states. Coverage of court data is uneven by geography, so a clean result in one state does not mean the same depth in another.
Compliance and upsells are where it lost ground overall. Both are fixable by the user — know the permitted use, and expect the interstitials — but neither is a strength.
Is BeenVerified worth the price?
BeenVerified costs $26.89/mo, or $17.48/mo on 3 months, with unlimited reports. That places it above Spokeo and Intelius on the monthly rate and just below TruthFinder. For the money you get unlimited reports, monitoring on saved reports, iOS and Android apps, and the data covered list spanning addresses, phones, emails, relatives, property, court records, social and vehicles.
Value scored 14 out of 20. The price is mid-to-high for the consumer category, and the upsell friction during report loading is a real cost in patience even if it is not a cost in dollars. What justifies the rate is the accuracy result: 86% measured accuracy and 2 false records across ten people. If you run one search and stop, the 3-month rate is the cheaper way in; if you search regularly, unlimited reports at the monthly rate is the straightforward option.
Who should buy BeenVerified?
BeenVerified is for personal lookups: old friends, a date, a caller. That is the still-right-for list, and it matches the permitted use exactly — personal use only, not employment, tenant, credit or insurance.
Buy it if you want the most accurate people search in our test, with current address and phone for nine of ten, and you value a low false-record rate over the cheapest possible subscription. Buy it if you need reverse phone, email, username or licence-plate lookups rather than a name-only search, or if you want a saved report that refreshes with alerts.
Do not buy it if you are screening an applicant, a tenant or anyone where a credit, insurance or employment decision is involved. For those jobs, Checkr and GoodHire are FCRA-compliant and permitted for that use; BeenVerified is not, and its terms say so.
