Is the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Worth It?

Best stroller overall. The GT2 gives up the reversible seat and the bassinet and keeps the parts that matter on a walk: the ride, the fold and the canopy. At $400 it is the best value on the list for a single child.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Forever-air rubber tyres and suspension handled gravel almost as well as the Vista
  • Fastest fold in the test — pull one strap
  • Near-flat recline, huge canopy, adjustable handlebar
  • Lifetime frame warranty; 65 lb seat limit
Cons
  • Seat does not reverse
  • No bassinet in the box; car seat adapter extra
  • Folded, it does not stand up

What problem does the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 solve?

The GT2 gives up the reversible seat and the bassinet and keeps the parts that matter on a walk: the ride, the fold and the canopy. That is the trade the stroller makes, and it is why it is the best value on the list for a single child. At $399.99 you get all-terrain wheels and a one-hand fold, which is the combination most families actually use every day.

It is the stroller we would recommend to most families, and it is still right for most families with one child. The ride, the fold and the canopy are the three things you touch on every trip out, and the GT2 does not ask you to pay for a reversible seat or a bassinet you may not need.

How did it score in our tests?

We scored the GT2 across five criteria, and the total came to 8.5 out of 10.

  • Manoeuvring & ride: 22 out of 25. We measured one-handed steering, kerb pop, gravel and cobble comfort, suspension and brake feel on our 2-mile course.
  • Fold & portability: 18 out of 20. We timed fold time and hands needed, checked folded size against our test car boot, weighed it and checked whether it stands on its own.
  • Comfort & features: 15 out of 20. We looked at seat recline and padding, canopy coverage and UPF, basket capacity, cup holders, adjustable handlebar and reversible seat.
  • Build & safety: 13 out of 15. We assessed frame rigidity, harness, JPMA certification, warranty and expansion to car seat and second seat.
  • Value: 17 out of 20. We compared the price including the adapters and accessories most families buy against the field.

The fold and the ride carried the score. The comfort criterion is where the missing reversible seat shows up.

What are the standout strengths?

Forever-air rubber tyres and suspension handled gravel almost as well as the Vista, which is a $1,099.99 stroller. That is the headline result from our 2-mile course: the GT2 rides like a stroller that costs far more.

The fold is the fastest in the test. Pull one strap, and it is done in 2 seconds with one hand. The seat reclines near flat, the canopy is huge, and the handlebar adjusts. The frame carries a lifetime warranty, and the seat limit is 65 lb, the highest in this comparison.

What are the parts and build like?

The GT2 is an all-terrain everyday stroller that weighs 22.5 lb. It takes a child up to 65 lb. From birth you need a bassinet or car seat, both sold separately, and a car seat needs an adapter.

The seat does not reverse, and it does not convert to a double; the GT2 Double is a separate model. The fold is a one-hand lift strap that takes 2 seconds. The warranty is lifetime on the frame.

How does it compare with the competition?

The UPPAbaby Vista V3 scored 8.5 and costs $1,099.99. It weighs 27 lb, takes a child to 50 lb, includes a bassinet, has a reversible seat, converts to a double and folds in one step with the seat on. The GT2 beats it on weight, seat limit and price; the Vista wins on features and expansion.

The Mockingbird Single-to-Double scored 8.4 at $495. It weighs 26.5 lb, takes a child to 45 lb, has a reversible seat, converts to a double and carries a lifetime frame warranty. The GT2 is lighter, has a higher seat limit and costs less; the Mockingbird gives you the reversible seat and the double option.

The Thule Urban Glide 3 scored 8.1 at $649.95. It is a jogging stroller, weighs 25.6 lb, takes a child to 49 lb, has no reversible seat and does not convert to a double. The GT2 is lighter, has a higher seat limit and costs less; the Thule is the one to pick if you run.

Where does it fall short?

Features is where it lost, and the reason is simple: no reversible seat. If you want your child facing you, this is not the stroller.

There is no bassinet in the box, and the car seat adapter is extra. Folded, it does not stand up, so you need somewhere to lean it or lay it down.

Is it good value at $399.99?

The price is $399.99. On value it scored 17 out of 20, and the verdict is that at $400 it is the best value on the list for a single child. The lifetime frame warranty and the 65 lb seat limit stretch that further.

Who should buy the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2?

Most families with one child. If you want the ride, the fold and the canopy without paying for a reversible seat or a bassinet, the GT2 is the stroller we would recommend.
