Frequently asked questions about strollers
Do I need a $1,000 stroller?
No. The UPPAbaby Vista and Bugaboo Fox earn their price with ride quality, build and a second seat, and they last through several children. A Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 at $399 rode nearly as well on our course and folds faster. Buy the expensive one if you will walk a lot on rough paths or need a double; otherwise you are paying for finish.
Travel system or separate car seat?
Most full-size strollers here accept the major infant seats with an adapter ($30–$60). Buy the car seat on its safety and fit (see our car-seat ranking), then the stroller on the ride, and connect them; bundled "travel systems" often pair a good stroller with a mediocre seat.
When can a newborn use a stroller?
From birth in a bassinet, a fully reclining seat, or an infant car seat clicked on. Jogging strollers should not be used for running until the child has head control, usually 6–8 months, and many makers say later.
How do you test strollers?
Same 2-mile course with pavement, gravel path, kerbs, a shop aisle and a ramp, pushed with the same 25 lb weighted seat, timed and rated by two parents. We time the fold, measure the folded footprint against a Honda Civic boot, weigh each stroller, and check JPMA certification and warranty.
