Freepik Premium (Premium, annual) review 2027
The vector and illustration library, now with photos, mockups, icons and an AI suite — the cheapest unlimited plan here
Is the Freepik Premium Worth It?
Best for vectors and illustrations. For icons, vectors, mockups and illustration Freepik is the strongest library at the lowest price. It is not the place for video, music or campaign photography.
Freepik Premium Pros & Cons
- Filled every vector and mockup brief; Flaticon icons included
- Cheapest unlimited plan in the test
- Strong AI generation and editing tools
- Large free tier with attribution
- Video and music are thin or absent
- Fair-use download limits on "unlimited"
- Photography quality is variable
What problem does Freepik Premium solve?
Freepik Premium is the plan to pick when the job is icons, vectors, mockups and illustration. The verdict is blunt about the trade: for those asset types it is the strongest library at the lowest price, and it is not the place for video, music or campaign photography. That single sentence tells you both the benefit and the boundary.
The benefits the test recorded are specific. It filled every vector and mockup brief, and Flaticon icons are included. It is the cheapest unlimited plan in the test. Its AI generation and editing tools are strong, and there is a large free tier with attribution for anyone who wants to try before paying.
The limits are just as specific. Video and music are thin or absent, the "unlimited" plan carries fair-use download limits, and photography quality is variable. If your work is graphic design, that trade is easy to accept. If your work is video or campaign photography, it is not.
How did it score in our tests?
Freepik Premium scored 8 out of 10 overall, placing it third of seven services tested in the Stock Photo & Creative Asset Sites category. The score is built from five weighted criteria.
- Library breadth & quality — 24/30. This measures how many of our 20 briefs each service filled with a usable result on the first page, across photos, vectors, video, audio and templates. Freepik filled 14 of 20.
- Licence & protection — 13/20. This covers commercial use, print-run and audience limits, model releases, legal indemnification, and whether downloads stay licensed after you cancel. Freepik's indemnification is limited.
- Search & tools — 13/15. Filters, similar-image search, collections, AI generation and editing, and download formats. This is Freepik's strongest criterion.
- Integrations — 8/10. Plugins for Adobe, Figma, Canva, Office and video editors.
- Value — 22/25. Monthly cost per usable download for a small team that needs about 20 assets a month.
The pattern is clear: tools and value score high, library breadth is respectable, and licence protection is where the points are lost.
What does Freepik Premium do best?
Two measured results stand out. It filled 14 of 20 briefs, and at $12 a month on the annual plan it is the lowest price in the test. No other service here comes in under it.
The briefs it filled were the vector and mockup ones — every one of them. Flaticon icons are included in the plan, which matters if you build interfaces, decks or brand systems where icon consistency is the whole point. The AI generation and editing tools also scored well under search and tools, and the free tier with attribution gives you a way to test the library before committing.
How does the technology work?
The AI tools named in the spec sheet are image, video and voice generators plus retouch. In general terms, image generators turn a text prompt into a new asset by sampling from a trained model; retouch tools detect and remove or replace selected regions of an existing image; voice generators synthesise speech from text. Video generation extends the same idea across frames. Freepik's plan includes these tools alongside its stock library, so generated and licensed assets sit in the same account.
What do you actually get?
The plan is $12 a month on annual billing, or $20 monthly. Downloads are unlimited with a fair-use download cap. The library holds 200M+ vectors, photos, PSDs, icons and mockups. Templates are PSD and vector. Video sits on the Premium+ plan rather than this one, and there is no music or sound effects at all. Legal indemnification is limited. AI tools cover image, video and voice generation plus retouch. In our test it filled 14 of 20 briefs.
How does it compare with the competition?
Envato Elements scored 9 and costs $16.50 a month annually. It filled 18 of 20 briefs, carries 20M+ assets across templates, video, music, sound effects, fonts, graphics, photos and 3D, includes image and video generation, and offers legal indemnification up to $1M. Freepik is cheaper and stronger on vectors; Envato is ahead on breadth, video, music and protection.
Adobe Stock scored 8.2 at $29.99 a month for 10 assets, with unused downloads rolling over. Its 300M+ library spans photos, vectors, video, templates and 3D, it filled 16 of 20 briefs, and it carries $10,000 indemnification on standard assets plus Firefly generation and generative fill. Freepik undercuts it sharply and beats it on briefs filled, but Adobe is ahead on photography, video and licence cover.
Shutterstock scored 7.7 at $29 a month for 10 images, with an unlimited-image tier at $199. Its 450M+ images and 30M+ video clips make it the largest photo and vector library here, it filled 17 of 20 briefs, and indemnification runs to $10,000 standard and $250,000 enhanced. Freepik is far cheaper and filled fewer briefs, but its vector and mockup coverage is the reason it ranks above Shutterstock overall.

Where does Freepik Premium fall short?
Video and audio are where it lost. Video sits behind the Premium+ plan and there is no music or sound effects at all, so any project needing a soundtrack or footage has to go elsewhere. The "unlimited" downloads carry fair-use limits, which matters if you plan to pull hundreds of assets a month. Photography quality is variable, so it is not the service to choose when a campaign depends on a consistent photo look. Licence protection is the weakest scoring criterion at 13/20, with only limited indemnification.
Is Freepik Premium good value?
At $12 a month on annual billing, or $20 monthly, it is the cheapest unlimited plan in the test. Value scored 22/25, measured as monthly cost per usable download for a small team needing about 20 assets a month. With 14 of 20 briefs filled, the per-download maths works in its favour for vector-heavy work, and the fair-use cap is the only thing that complicates the word unlimited.
Who should buy Freepik Premium?
Graphic designers and anyone who needs vectors. That is the buyer the verdict names, and the test results back it: every vector and mockup brief filled, Flaticon icons included, the lowest price in the test, and strong AI generation and editing tools. Skip it if your work is video, music or campaign photography — those are the areas where it lost, and the rivals above cover them better.
