Nationwide Pet Insurance (Whole Pet with Wellness / Avian & Exotic) review 2026

The only major US insurer that covers birds, reptiles and small mammals — and one of the few whose top plan includes wellness in the same policy

PriceFrom $62 · checked Sep 11, 2026
Labrador, age 262 $/mo
Cat, age 331 $/mo

Is the Nationwide Pet Insurance Worth It?

Only real option for exotic pets. If you own a parrot, a bearded dragon or a rabbit, this is effectively the only ranking entry available to you, and it is a solid one. For dogs and cats it is expensive and reimburses less.

Nationwide Pet Insurance Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Covers birds, rabbits, reptiles, ferrets and other exotics — almost nobody else does
  • Whole Pet with Wellness rolls routine care into one policy
  • Backed by one of the largest US insurers
  • Employer group discounts are common

  • Reimbursement caps at 70% on most plans
  • Priciest dog and cat quotes after Trupanion
  • Underwriting and plan availability vary a lot by state
