Frequently asked questions about meal kit delivery
Are meal kits cheaper than groceries?
No. At $6–$13 a serving plus $10–$11 shipping a week, every kit here costs more than the same meal cooked from a supermarket shop. What you buy is no planning, no waste and portions that fit; EveryPlate and Dinnerly narrow the gap to a dollar or two a serving.
What about the introductory offers?
Every service runs one — "16 free meals", "$2.99 a serving" — spread across the first few boxes with a full-price subscription behind it. We score the regular price because that is what week five costs. Take the offer, put the renewal date in your calendar, and skip weeks freely; all eight let you.
Meal kit or prepared meals?
Kits (HelloFresh, Home Chef, Blue Apron) send ingredients and take 25–45 minutes; prepared meals (Factor) arrive cooked and take three minutes in a microwave. Prepared costs more per serving and tastes like good reheated food; kits taste like cooking.
How do you test meal kits?
Two people cook two weeks of the two-person, three-meal plan from each service, timing every recipe against the card and logging the condition of every ingredient. A third person tastes each meal blind and scores it out of ten. We photograph packaging, check recyclability, and test skipping and cancelling.
