OnePlus 15R CPH2771 North America 512GB 12GB Charcoal Black US review (2027)

What problem does the OnePlus 15R solve, and what do you get?

The OnePlus 15R is built around one clear trade: a class-leading 7,400mAh battery and near-flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 performance, with the camera pared back to hit its $699 price. Reviewers described the battery as class-leading, and the phone carries the best-rated water and dust resistance in the lineup with IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings. That combination targets buyers who want long runtime and speed without paying flagship camera money.

Android Central and HotHardware agreed the camera system was scaled back — even compared to the 13R — to reach that price. So the benefit is straightforward: you get the biggest battery in its class and top-tier water resistance, and you accept fewer camera options.

How did it score in our testing?

We scored the OnePlus 15R across five criteria for a total of 8.4 out of 10, ranking it 8th of 14 phones tested in its category.

• Performance: 8.5 out of 25. This measures chipset generation and real-world speed under gaming, multitasking and sustained load, per official specs and reviewer benchmarks. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 delivers near-flagship performance.
• Battery: 9.5 out of 25. This covers capacity, charging speed and reviewer-measured runtime under mixed use. The 7,400mAh cell is the standout result here.
• Camera: 6.5 out of 20. This measures photo and video quality across lighting conditions, per reviewer consensus. It is the lowest score of the five criteria.
• Display: 8.5 out of 15. This covers panel type, refresh rate, brightness and outdoor visibility.
• Value: 8.5 out of 15. This weighs price against what the phone delivers relative to its peers.

The pattern is clear: battery and performance carry the score, while the camera is where the phone gives ground.

Where does the OnePlus 15R stand out?

The 7,400mAh battery is the headline. Reviewers called it class-leading, and our battery criterion reflects that with 9.5 out of 25 points. For anyone who has watched a phone die before dinner, this is the reason to look at the 15R.

Water and dust resistance is the second strength. The 15R carries IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings, which our testing notes as the best-rated water and dust resistance in the lineup. That matters for rain, spills and dusty environments.

Third, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset delivers near-flagship performance. Our performance criterion scored 8.5 out of 25, covering gaming, multitasking and sustained load.

Where does the OnePlus 15R fall short?

The camera is the compromise. Our test notes state that camera versatility is reduced versus the 13R and the standard 15. Android Central and HotHardware both agreed the camera system was scaled back — even compared to the 13R — to hit the $699 price.

That shows up in the score: the camera earned 6.5 out of 20, the lowest of the five criteria. If photography across multiple focal lengths is a priority, the 15R asks you to accept fewer options than its siblings.

How does the OnePlus 15R compare with its rivals?

Against the OnePlus 15 (CPH2749, 512GB/16GB, $999.99), which scored 9.1, the 15R trails on overall score but undercuts it on price. The 15R's battery is the class-leading 7,400mAh unit, while the 15's camera is not pared back the way the 15R's is.

Against the OnePlus 13 (CPH2655, 512GB/16GB, $999.99), which scored 8.8, the 15R again sits lower overall. Our notes specifically call out reduced camera versatility versus the 13R, and the 13 is a higher-scoring sibling at a higher price.

Against the OnePlus 11 5G (CPH2451, 256GB/16GB, $799.99), which scored 8.7, the 15R is behind on score but priced lower at $699. The 15R brings the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and the 7,400mAh battery, while the 11 5G is an older generation.

Who should buy the OnePlus 15R?

Buy it if battery life and water resistance matter more than camera flexibility. The 7,400mAh battery, IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 performance make it a fit for heavy users who want near-flagship speed at $699.

Skip it if you want a versatile camera system. The 15R's camera was scaled back versus the 13R and the standard 15, and our camera score of 6.5 out of 20 reflects that. Buyers who prioritize photography should look at the higher-scoring OnePlus 15 or OnePlus 13 instead.
