OnePlus 12 CPH2583 North America 512GB 16GB Flowy Emerald US review (2027)

What problem does the OnePlus 12 solve, and what do you get?

The OnePlus 12 is the phone for buyers who want flagship hardware without paying flagship money. Its headline claim is simple: it matches the Galaxy S24 Ultra's specs for hundreds less. At $799 versus the $1,300 Galaxy S24 Ultra, PhoneArena called it "easily the best OnePlus phone ever" at the time.

What that buys you is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a 5,400mAh battery that PhoneArena measured at nearly 30 hours of video playback, and a Hasselblad-tuned f/1.6 main camera that reviewers rated among the best in its price class. The three strengths testers kept returning to were an excellent all-round camera that stays strong in low light, 80W wired plus 50W wireless charging, and flagship performance well below flagship price.

That combination is the whole pitch. You are not buying a compromise phone with a slow chip or a dim screen; you are buying the same class of component that costs far more elsewhere, and the money you keep is the benefit.

How did it score in our testing?

We break every phone down across five criteria, and the OnePlus 12 scored consistently rather than spiking in one area.

• Performance: 8.5 out of 25. This measures chipset generation and real-world speed under gaming, multitasking and sustained load, per official specs and reviewer benchmarks.
• Battery: 8.5 out of 25. This covers capacity, charging speed and reviewer-measured runtime under mixed use.
• Camera: 8.5 out of 20. This reflects photo and video quality across lighting conditions, per reviewer consensus.
• Display: 8.5 out of 15. This weighs panel type, refresh rate, brightness and outdoor visibility.
• Value: 9 out of 15. This is price against what the phone delivers relative to its peers.

Value is the highest mark of the five, which fits a phone whose case rests on what you get for the money. The other four sit level with each other, so there is no single weak pillar dragging the overall result down.

Where does the OnePlus 12 stand out?

Three things came through in testing.

First, the camera. Reviewers described it as an excellent all-round camera that is strong in low light, helped by the Hasselblad-tuned f/1.6 main sensor. It is not a one-trick portrait shooter; it holds up across conditions.

Second, charging. The phone supports 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, a combination that is rare at this price and means less time tethered to a cable or pad.

Third, battery life. PhoneArena measured the 5,400mAh cell at nearly 30 hours of video playback, which is the kind of runtime that gets you through long days and travel without hunting for an outlet.

Underneath all of it is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the same generation of chipset found in far more expensive flagships, which is why the performance story and the price story are really the same story.

Where does it fall short?

There is one clear limitation: telephoto reach is shorter than the very best flagships. If long-range zoom is your priority, this phone will not match the class leaders, and that is the trade you accept in exchange for the lower price.

Everything else in the test notes was positive, so this is a narrow, specific shortfall rather than a broad weakness.

How does it compare with rival phones?

Against the OnePlus 15 CPH2749 North America 512GB 16GB Infinite Black, which scored 9.1 and lists at $999.99, the OnePlus 12 scores 8.6 and lists at $899.99. The newer OnePlus is ahead on score and costs more.

Against the OnePlus 13 CPH2655 North America 512GB 16GB Arctic Dawn, which scored 8.8 and lists at $999.99, the OnePlus 12 again trails on score while listing at $899.99.

Against the OnePlus 11 5G CPH2451 North America 256GB 16GB Titan Black US, which scored 8.7 and lists at $799.99, the OnePlus 12 scores 8.6 and lists at $899.99. Here the older model edges it on score at a lower list price, though the OnePlus 12 brings the newer chipset, the larger battery and the faster charging described above.

Who should buy the OnePlus 12?

Buy it if you want flagship-class performance, a camera that holds up in low light, fast wired and wireless charging, and long measured battery life, and you would rather not pay Galaxy S24 Ultra money to get them. The $799 price against the $1,300 Galaxy S24 Ultra is the core of the case.

Look elsewhere if telephoto reach is a priority for you, since that is the one area where this phone gives ground to the very best flagships.
