Check your laptop first
One-cable use needs a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode (look for a DP or Thunderbolt symbol). Every MacBook since 2016 has it; many budget Windows laptops do not — then you need a monitor with mini-HDMI (ViewSonic, Arzopa, UPERFECT, ASUS OLED, espresso) and a second cable for power.

IPS: cheaper, bright enough, accurate enough for work. OLED: better contrast and colour for films and editing, dearer, mild burn-in risk. Our measured brightness ran 220–360 nits; under 250 is dim near a window.
Size and resolution
15.6-inch 1080p is the sweet spot. 14-inch matches a small laptop. 2560×1600 (LG) or 4K (espresso) only if the laptop can drive it and you scale.
By budget
