The Adobe Photography plan is two jobs: Lightroom develops and organises shoots; Photoshop edits single images in depth. Replacing it means covering both.
Developing and organising

- DxO PhotoLab ($139–$229): the best RAW conversions and denoise we tested; basic library, no layers.
- Capture One (perpetual $299): studio-grade colour and tethering.
Deep editing
- Affinity Photo 2 ($69.99): layers, masks, retouching, PSD support. Our pick.
- GIMP (free): capable, slow, unfamiliar.
Pairs that work
ON1 alone, or DxO PhotoLab + Affinity Photo ($209–$299 once), replaced the Adobe plan for everything in our test except Generative Fill. Three years of the Photography plan is about $360; the pairs are cheaper by year two and yours forever.
