Leaving LastPass: Which Manager to Move To and How

Why people left after the 2022 breach, the three managers that import a LastPass export cleanly, and the steps.

September 1, 2026 · 4 min read

In 2022 attackers stole encrypted LastPass vaults along with unencrypted website URLs; users with weak master passwords or old low-iteration settings have since seen accounts drained. Whether or not you were affected, moving is reasonable.

Where to go

  • 1Password — best overall; the Secret Key means a stolen vault is useless.
  • Bitwarden — open source and free.
  • NordPass — cheapest premium plan.

How to move

  1. In LastPass: Account Settings → Advanced → Export. Save the CSV somewhere encrypted.
  2. In the new manager: Import → LastPass. All three above map the fields correctly.
  3. Change the passwords for email, banking and any site in the export — the old vault may be in circulation.
  4. Delete the CSV and the LastPass account.
