Laptop Overheating While Editing? Here's the Real Cause

If your export slows down after the first few minutes, your laptop is not broken — it is throttling. Thin chassis cannot shed the heat a sustained render produces, so the chip drops its clock to protect itself.
How to see it
Run the same export twice back-to-back and time both. A drop of more than 10% on the second run means the cooling cannot keep up.
What helps
- Elevate the rear of the laptop; most intake vents are underneath.
- Set the power mode to Performance while plugged in.
- Use proxies for 4K multicam timelines.
Which laptops held their speed
In our tests the MacBook Pro 16", the ROG Zephyrus G16 and the Legion Pro 7i finished the second export within 3% of the first. Most thin Windows laptops lost 20–40%.
