Frequently asked questions about laptops

How much RAM do I need in a laptop in 2026?
16GB is the floor for office work and 1080p editing; 32GB for 4K video, large photo libraries or virtual machines. Memory is not upgradeable on MacBooks and most thin Windows laptops, so buy the tier you will need in three years.
MacBook or Windows for video editing?
If you work in Final Cut Pro, a MacBook Pro is faster per dollar because Apple's Metal path does the heavy lifting. In Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve an NVIDIA RTX laptop closes most of the gap with CUDA acceleration and can be opened to add storage later.
Is a gaming laptop good for work?
Yes for performance, with three caveats we measured: battery life is usually 5–9 hours in office use, fans are audible under load, and weight is 2 kg or more. The ROG Zephyrus G16 is the exception that stays quiet and light enough for a desk.
How do you score laptops?
Performance 30, display 20, battery 20, build 15 and value 15 — each measured, not estimated. The score is the sum divided by ten and is locked before we add any affiliate link.

*Scores: Performance 30 · Display 20 · Battery 20 · Build 15 · Value 15; score = Σ ÷ 10, ties break on the earlier test date. Prices shown were checked on the date beside each and may change. Affiliate links are added only after a score is locked and can never change it. How we rank.
