Frequently asked questions about dating apps

Which dating app actually leads to relationships?
In our 30 days Hinge produced the most first dates per match for all three testers, and its prompts led to longer conversations. eHarmony and Match skew older and more marriage-minded but cost more and moved slower. Tinder produced the most matches and the fewest dates.
Do I need to pay?
Hinge, Bumble, Tinder, OkCupid and Coffee Meets Bagel are usable free with daily limits. Paying mainly buys unlimited likes, seeing who liked you, and filters. Match and eHarmony need a subscription to message at all. Our testers found the paid tiers on Hinge and Bumble worth a month while actively dating, not as a standing subscription.
How do I stay safe?
Use apps with photo verification and video chat (Hinge, Bumble, Tinder, Match all offer them), verify a match's photos before meeting, meet in public, tell someone, and never send money. Every app here has in-app reporting; Bumble and Hinge responded to our test reports fastest.
How do you test dating apps?
Three team members with the same photos and bio use each app for 30 days in the same metro, spending 20 minutes a day. We log matches, replies, conversations that reach a scheduled date, and every profile we judge fake or a scam, and we report a test profile to time moderation. Prices are what the testers were quoted.
