WiFi vs Non-WiFi Baby Monitors: Which Should You Buy?

Non-WiFi (local radio)
A camera and a handheld screen on their own encrypted radio link. Pros: instant on, no app, no account, no internet exposure, and the fewest dropouts in our test (Infant Optics 0, eufy 1, VTech 2). Cons: only works at home, no analytics, screens are small.
WiFi
A camera streams to your phone through your router and the maker's cloud. Pros: view from anywhere, better resolution, sleep tracking and alerts (Nanit, Cubo). Cons: depends on your router (Nanit 2 dropouts, Cubo 3), needs your phone awake, subscriptions for the best features, and a privacy policy to read.
Our recommendation
A non-WiFi monitor for the nursery, and if you want remote viewing or analytics, add a WiFi camera as the second unit. Families who chose one WiFi monitor were happiest with Nanit.
Whatever you buy
Mount the camera out of reach with the cord secured; turn on two-factor login on any app; and treat breathing and vitals features as reassurance, not protection.
